Apparently his mother was quite definite. It was to be Steven with a "v", for no specific reason other than she simply liked the look of "Steven" devoid of its "ph". So Steven with a "v" it's been since 1980.
Quiet and undoubtedly talented he's always been creative, falling into design from an early age when he began to produce posters for Belfast's local music scene. Something he still does, but the heady days as a teenage bass player with "Stickboy", his first band, are long since past. A regular gig goer still (he enjoys the hot, sweaty atmosphere, as he puts it), especially if it's one of the four bands he still designs for. He also likes experimenting with anything - creatively that is.
Steven's also patient. You'd need to be if you're into hand-rendered animation - and while he admits that most film credits are longer than his films, he was up for Best Director (short film) at the Belfast Film Festival, while "23", a short animated film about David Beckham, was shown at the Berlin Film Festival.
